Commendations
CAPE has been honored by commendations and resolutions from the Hawai`i State Legislature and by the City and County of Honolulu for CAPE's contribution to Hawai`i.
In 1990, the House of Representatives passed a resolution recognizing the work of its founder, Dr. Jai-Ho Yoo, noting his "commitment to make Hawai`i a focal point for international training and to promote peace and understanding among Asian and Pacific people".
In 1994 the City and County of Honolulu awarded Dr. Yoo a certificate commending him for his leadership of the Center for Asia-Pacific Exchange and his effectiveness in developing East-West relations.
In 1995, the State Senate passed a similar resolution of commendation.
Various CAPE programs are designed to meet the needs of local residents. These programs are offered at no charge to Hawai`i residents. A total of over 2,000 community residents have attended CAPE's "Language and Culture Seminar" and "Asia Today" lecture series.
Teachers from the state of Hawai`i have received CAPE fellowships to participate in the CAPE American Studies Forum, as well as in the Workshop for Asia-Pacific Teachers of English. Faculty from the University of Hawai`i have conducted classes and provided lectures for visiting groups of Asian students, teachers and scholars.
